William Lilley Primary School, Stapleford

Vale Sport and Leisure were asked to refurbish William Lilley’s Playground and sports facility with a clear play theme throughout the project in order to provide the children with endless hours of play and fun!

“From planning to completion, Vale Sport and Leisure have been professional and supportive, ensuring they have addressed our every request!”

Client Brief/The Problem

  • William Lilley’s Playground was experiencing drainage problems as the playground would often flood, leaving the children having no choice but having to play inside. The playground also lacked creativity and children were finding that at times there was little to do, proving that play was become increasingly challenging with minimum equipment.
  • William Lilley’s teachers had very creative ideas and were desperate to improve their school’s facilities to provide the children with the best possible play experience, whilst maintaining an attractive appearance and cleaning up the playground in general.
  • As a result, working alongside the headteacher, Vale Sport and Leisure designed a project that would tackle the drainage problems, was bright and aesthetic for both children and visitors and most importantly could offer a variety of play for almost any child foto enjoy on a daily basis.

The Solution

The design was well thought out with all features serving a great purpose and plays a huge part in completing the entire project as a whole.

  • The wetpour safety surface which is such arguably one of the main features of the project as it covers a high percentage of the playground, this permeable surface was ideal to tackle the lack of drainage within the area, whilst also providing a safety factor for the children’s play equipment. The bright colours also complement the environment extremely well as chosen by the head-teacher, with the surface relating to the equipment, for example, the sudden colour changes within the wetpour to work alongside the trim trail play items, this is also seen when the obstacle course is implemented into the surface with different coloured specs for added creativity within the play area.
  • The themed play equipment is all colour specific with a clear red and blue theme throughout, with yellow flecks within some of the wetpour. Some of the key pieces of play equipment with the project include;
  • A number of timber trim-trail courses, including balance beams, suspension bridges, rope walks and various other obstacles to overcome, which test children’s speed and coordination, proving quite the test and resulting in great fun for any pupil!
  • Themed Boat Play equipment for children to explore their imagination as pirates at sea or other games!
  • An outdoor Mini-Muga area, complete with Goal Ends, sport’s markings and a surrounding Rebound perimeter fencing! Allowing children to stay active and spend hours playing sports that they love.
  • An outdoor learning & socialising area with multi-coloured wetpour surfacing, complete with colourful learning shelters for children to sit down and relax and play games sat down on the playground, giving the children an area to enjoy the playground without having to run around.
  • Bespoke Musical play equipment was also installed to the playground, giving groups of the children a chance to socialise and enjoy music outdoors! Such a unique set of features allows children’s creativity to flow as their imagination runs wild whilst they play musical items with their friends at lunchtime.

The Result

Since Vale Sport and Leisure carried out the various works for William Lilley our team has been delighted to receive nothing but outstanding feedback following the project.

Some of Vale Sport and Leisure’s favourite quotes include;

“The children love the playground, they are even more eager to get outside!”

“They often stay behind at the end of the day to play with their friends”

“The installation was quick and efficient!”

The entire theme of land vs sea theme, with the implemented wetpour surfacing colours and features, works alongside the bespoke play equipment fantastic, creating an outstanding environment for the children to explore and most importantly have fun, the bespoke equipment such as the playboat, play boat and various pirate features throughout the project allows a learning experience like no other, as this project has been planned with every child type in mind!

A project that will continue to offer hours on end of limitless fun, is safe and low maintenance and also looks appealing to almost any set of eyes.

With the Wetpour safety surfacing offering a solution to the previous issues that the playground faced due to heavy rainfall, the playground looking the best it ever has for students and visitors and all involved parties being extremely happy with the outcome of the project, this refurbishment was, without doubt, a huge success and our team enjoyed working for such a fantastic school!

John Shelton Primary School, Coventry

Vale Sport and Leisure Ltd can offer a wide range of equipment and surfacing in both Sport and Play environment. Offering communities a place where they can have fun whilst keeping active is vital, especially with modern technology distracting the younger generation from keeping fit.

The team here at Vale Sport and Leisure were approached by John Shelton Primary School to design, supply and install an entire MUGA project, complete with surfacing outside of the MUGA and even a play unit for students that wanted to climb and play instead of playing sports.

Client Brief;

John Shelton primary School contacted Vale Sport and Leisure with the works of supplying & installing a perfect environment for children to learn, have fun, whilst remaining safe at all times whilst doing so. Childhood obesity rates being at an all-time high across England, it is vital to allow the next generation of children to have space where they can take part in physical activity, this increases their levels of fitness, whilst they learn and socialise with children of similar ages.

“A cost-effective area for children and adults to enjoy lots of different sports and develop their skills.”

Features Of The Design;

  • The surface inside the MUGA is a multisport synthetic surface, which allows games and training to take place in all weather conditions, as the surface is completely waterproof and complete with sports markings allowing a number of non-professional sports to take place, which is ideal in schools as the children just want to have fun.
  •  Alongside the surfacing markings, the MUGA is complete with a number of sports features, these include; Football penalty area details with an integrated goal, a basketball hoop and backboard and also a number of cricket wickets all within the one MUGA area. This appeals to a range of students who will have different hobbies, this is perfect for break time play as well as P.E lessons that can be slightly stricter and may contain more rule than the average group of youngsters playing sports purely for fun.
  • The heavy-duty fencing panels and the goal ends meet all health and safety requirements, with special designs in certain areas ensuring that children any user in or outisde of the MUGA is completely safe at all times, an example of these design features are the curved corners, reducing the risk of injury from straight corners, implementing a safety design and allowing sports to flow at a much faster pace, therefore keeping users interested at all times.
  • All MUGA projects are completely individual, with Vale Sport and Leisure being able to design and change features of the MUGA such as the shape and the colour of the fencing. This allows all project to customizable to suit a certain environment or design specification.
  • The open-back goal ends allow safe entry, AMG also completed the area with a Resin Bonded Rubber Mulch Walkway in a natural Green and Brown Blend.

The Result;

When it comes to dramatic transformations of areas, this project is simply one of the best, the once overgrown grass area is now almost unrecognisable, quickly becoming the main outdoor feature of the school and is now the most popular area for the pupils as they enjoy hours of fun in any form of weather.

The MUGA alongside the Play unit has experienced nothing but positive feedback from the students, the teachers and even pedestrians that have stated how nice the area now looks. The School was a pleasure to work with and both parties are delighted with how the project has turned out!

Vale Sport and Leisure are currently in the process of designing and manufacturing our very own MUGA’s, which gives the customer even more freedom when it comes to designing their very own project as we can offer that extra customizable option whilst maintaining the fantastic quality at such a great value! If you know fo a community or you have any interest in the MUGA projects that our team can design, supply and install then we strongly suggest that you get in touch with our team today!

Spofforth Parish Council,
Ginny Greenholes Play Area

Client Brief;

Vale Sport and Leisure Ltd was asked to refurbish a village play-area in North Yorkshire…

Spofforth Parish Council have a popular play area called Ginny Greenholes which is well used and loved by local residents. The Parish Council had two issues from the usage of the site – the grassmatt surfacing had sunk over time and was creating a Health & Safety risk whilst also adding to an increase in maintenance costs. They were also getting reports that their current equipment was slightly too challenging for really little tots – they lacked some targeted provision for under 3’s.

The Parish Council also wanted to provide a piece of equipment which commemorated a member of the Parish Council who was active on the playground committee but who had recently passed away.

Features Of The Design;

Vale Sport and Leisure suggested that the Parish Council used Vale Sport and Leisure’s Rubber Bonded Mulch to overlay the grassmatts to provide a continuous rubber surface. Rubber Bonded Mulch is available in natural colours and so suited the natural setting of the site perfectly.  The new surfacing accompanied 4 new items of toddler focused play equipment all installed onto Rubber Bonded Mulch. Vale Sport and Leisure also supplied and installed a bespoke Toddler Play Tractor and Trailer with a memorial “Dave’s Tractor” number plate to commemorate and celebrate their former colleague.

The Result;

The Parish Council by working directly with Vale Sport and Leisure, Spofforth Parish Council were able to increase the specification on the surfacing and provide extra items of equipment as Vale Sport and Leisure employ their own direct Site Staff.

“The project was delivered on time, with great care and is absolutely perfect. Already I have great feedback from the families in the village.

Don’t just take Vale Sport and Leisure’s word for it, Here is what the customer had to say about our work;

“ I am delighted that Spofforth Parish Council chose Vale Sport and Leisure to supplement the facilities we have to offer to youngsters here in Spofforth.”

Mount Nod Primary School

Features Of The Design;

  • Timber Story Telling Shelter
  •  Dynamic Petrol Pump

Vale Sport and Leisure was asked to remove, prep and install a variety of surfaces and pieces of play equipment and even install a timber shelter. The main goal was to allow the children to play freely outside, which hasn’t been the case due to flaws in the draining system and the previous surface.

Client Brief;

The scheme also involved Vale Sport and Leisure’s surfacing team laying Road themed wetpour graphics to “Drive” the Children’s imagination wild, whilst teaching them vital safety skills. The diverse range of features makes sure that the project appeals to children of all interests and energy levels.

To battle this we have implemented a new drainage system and laid wetpour which is fantastic in all weather, to grant the children the freedom of staying active and growing in a healthy environment.
